Fall Weather

It rained all night, and has been cloudy all day. The mountain areas on the western side of Colorado are supposed to get 10 inches of snow tonight. With luck, we won't have a freeze overnight, but I'm covering my tomatoes and zucchini just in case.

The raccoon or maybe a bear got into the trash can at the fishing parking and scattered the contents last night. Usually the lid is too tight on the can for them to get it off, but someone left it ajar.

There was a big story about our fishing club, Rocky Mountain Angling, in The New York Times this summer. The story didn't cover my property, which is probably just as well. If the club as a whole gets more business, so will we.

The retaining wall and steps are done, it's good to have it done with. This picture isn't quite the final, but close.

I pre-paid for my propane this season, had to guess at how much I'll need, and it's a use it or lose it situation: whatever they put in between October 1 and March 31 is already paid for, and if I don't use as much as I paid for, it doesn't roll over, and I don't get a refund. I guessed high, so am enjoying the luxury of 68 degrees instead of creaking around in a 60 degree house wearing lots of clothing layers to keep warm.

The propane delivery guy had hip replacement surgery last month, but he plans to be back making deliveries by October or November. He will be surprised at the new stone steps alongside the house because the wooden ones that were there were in bad shape, a real safety hazard. I just hope these don't get slick with snow. I'm going to put a covered bucket of sand out there just in case.

Mr. Troutbend had a free room at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas, one of the newly redecorated rooms with laminate floor. He said is was very echo-y in there.

The new decor really looks ugly in the pictures, but maybe it's better in person.

See that scarf thing on the bed that stands in for a bedspread these days? I received an email from the hotel supply place that says they are selling top sheets with that band of color woven into the polyester sheet (or maybe printed on) so the hotel doesn't have to invest in those separate scarves or bedspreads. It sounds tacky, and I don't think the high-end hotels would do it.

The fox was here today, maybe because it rained and he wanted some comfort food.

The trees are beautiful. The stairs turned out so well. Good choice of stone, I think. Foxy is becoming a gourmet, but not sharing with his family so much right now.

I'm so glad those steps are done. I was making lunch for the workers every day and running out of ideas.

I would be afraid to give Foxy anymore peanut butter. I am happy that he likes your place. Every fox should have a Mrs. Troutbend in his life.

It would be so interesting to put a GPS tracking collar on that fox to see where he goes when he leaves here and stays away for a week.

Love the steps!!

I keep looking at them wondering if I chose the right color, but at least they are done.

I am glad the fox is enjoying gourmet food. Rex likes it too. He went on
a hunger strike for steak yesterday but didn't get it and did not eat dinner
until he gave up at 9 p.m.

If only they could tell us exactly what they want, and if only they would listen to reason.

He just keeps hanging around until you give him the good stuff.

He sure does. You can see the progression in the quality of the food. Once I give him the leftovers that were supposed to be our next meal, and he's still around, I'll find myself cutting off a piece of an uncooked roast for him.

The fox looks so cute!! Maybe you should write the Vegas hotel and tell them they look cheap!! We are hitting Fall weather also--a high of only 89 today but I'll manage--don't feel too sorry for me---propane? Isn't taht used for grills to cook steaks on?

One of these years I'm going to buy a gas grill and find out how the other half lives.

I thought the propane company Donna used to deal with when I met her was bad. Your deal sounds almost criminal; wasteful to say the least if somebody over-pays and has to use it or lose it at the end of the season.

It sounds pretty bad, doesn't it? I own all my tanks, so next year I might look into what the other propane companies are offering.

Glad Mr. T got a freebie even if the decor wasn't up to snuff. The stairs look good. Well, did Mr. Fox get his comfort food? Hmm?
comment by tealstar on Sept 12, 2012 3:45 PM ()
The fox had some meat scraps, and then he had half a peanut butter sandwich. He managed to get a 3 inch piece of bread stuck to the roof of his mouth with peanut butter, and struggling with that, he stepped on the rest of the sandwich and got peanut butter stuck to his front paw. It was not a moment of dignity. Then he ate a homemade dinner roll and some dry cat food that the cat isn't crazy about. Later he came back and had some noodle casserole that he enjoyed immensely, and that satisfied him so he went home.
