Another Day on the River

One of our long-time fishermen came to look at the river today, now that the ice has melted so we can see what the river looks like after the flood. The banks are still in the same place, but many of the deep and shallow parts have changed, and there are new rocks to affect the currents.

He was pleasantly surprised that the river still has texture in the form of small boulders, rather than being just a smooth, sandy bottom. Right now, the water is only 12 to 18 inches deep, but over the next couple of months, it will go up to 4 to 5 feet deep. Small rocks will get rearranged, and some of what we see today will get rearranged. We probably won't see this low water level until September or October so won't know what has changed in the riverbed until then.

At any rate, we're looking forward to a summer of good fishing.

For a long time after the flood it didn't seem pretty at all, but spring has brought life back to the landscape, and I'm so glad to see it.

the river is so clear and pretty. Hard to believe that a few months ago
it was so angry and destructive.

There are many reminders of the flood's fury, but as restoration progresses, fewer of them every day.

Hard to believe spring is coming; since the flood, some days it seems as if time has stood still.
