Celestial Events

There is a lunar eclipse tomorrow morning early. It'll be total in Australia, partial here in the western United States and Canada, and not visible in the eastern part of the United States.

This image is from the December 20, 2010 total lunar eclipse. Follow this link to the Astronomy Today Website for a complete description.

I found a great website that tells us all we need to know about this and upcoming celestrial events: Time and Date.com

Here is a Time Zone Converter

And here is a time-lapse of the Leonid Meteor Shower over Monument Valley.

Stunning photos. I always think of Jay during these times, because he so loved astronomy.

There was a man in the Denver area with the same name as my husband who was an avid astronomy hobbyist, and the newspapers often consulted him about upcoming celestial events. Right after the Columbine shootings, there was a big headline "G____ E____ knows about Guns" (from growing up in Chicago). This was right around the time my husband had quit his aerospace job because it was either that or kill himself, so I was glad there was a picture of that other man accompanying the article so his friends and co-workers could see it wasn't him who knew so much.

I would love to see a meteor shower once in my life. I need to start a bucket list I guess?

The one that was this past Thursday night (Geminids) sounded like a really good meteor shower to watch. Unfortunately we were totally clouded over here.

Love celestial events — wish this one was visible in Northwest Ohio, but it will be on the web if I can find it....

I always remember the many times there was supposed to be an eclipse and we missed it because of clouds or looking in the wrong direction. My favorite was the Hale-Bopp Comet because it was visible for many nights, and I could pop my head out my front door and see it just about any time I wanted.

We will have to go outside and look but doubt if we see it. If it would
only bring us some rain!

Doesn't the moon look tiny and lonely in that picture? And cold.

happened here about 2 weeks ago when the moon covered the sun, was visible fully in queensland only partial here ---dont look at without aids

It seems like a lot of the good eclipses are visible in Australia.

There is a full moon over Fort Lauderdale and high tides--we have already LOST 3 blocks of concrete along the beach highway--everyone is dreading tomorrow night!

I can never get enough of watching the ocean. It'd be interesting to see some higher tides just because I never have, but not destructive ones necessarily.
