What's in the Camera: Early February

The bighorn sheep. This is how they look from a distance:

Up close:

They never get struck by cars because they don't spook and go racing around. They hold their ground and the cars drive around them.

Outside my dining room window this afternoon:

The gap in the fence is where the riverbank almost washed away in the flood, and we lost some trees. It improved the view.

We had some 48 degree days, and this is how the river looked before this most recent snow.

Love the photos! I'm imagining coming to visit and sitting in your dining room with you and a couple cups of tea and cookies just enjoying that view.

Wouldn't that be great? You have to bring some good stories to tell.

Re. sounding whiny, an acquaintance down the road had to replace her house after Charley but FEMA and her insurance covered everything, and the new place is much more elegant and larger and more substantial, and all she can talk about is how she misses the shack she lost.

FEMA etc. has been hammering into our heads that their money is only for restoring to pre-flood condition, not making improvements unless it's to raise the house above the flood plain. I'll bet some people know how to play the system, though.

I was imagining having you here 'helping' by wondering out loud where you can find some good carrot cake around here.

I like everything about Colorado. It makes me think of that beautiful
song of John Denver's. and of course no one could sing it like he could.

I've lived in only a couple of different places, and although I came to realize that Colorado isn't the center of the universe, it has a lot more going for it than some places I can think of, Las Vegas for one.

Hmmm I wonder what their wool would be like.
You have such beautiful scenery around there.

It's stiff hair for the outer coat (like a deer), and they have an undercoat, but I don't think it's wooly.

Good pictures!

Thanks! Tonight I was trying to fix my leaking clothes washer hose, and managed to get the hose and the electrical plug intertwined. It was a hassle to straighten that out, and I kept thinking "Martin is such a good handyman, he would never have let that cord get over there." Hah!

Uours is a special paradise -- I am sure you know that. The sheep are smart, aren't they. Great photos.

After the flood people would say 'you have a beautiful place' and I felt like telling them it's not so great any more, but I didn't because of course it will all get better, and I'm lucky to be able to keep living here. And that would sound whiny.
