Buddies

Mr. TroutBend actually let me call a plumber today to fix the water line in the guest cabin because people are coming for 13 days starting this Saturday, and he had tried everything and none of it worked. Normally he'd rather die than pay someone to do what he thinks he should be able to do himself, even if he can't do it.

They got along very well, the plumber shared information about projects and any number of other things. It was like having a buddy come over to work on projects together. Except we had to pay him. But it was worth it.

Not only did the cold water line in the kitchen start working, he removed the crummy little garbage disposal that leaks and re-did the plumbing under the sink so it's all nice now. And then came over to the house and dealt with the leaky faucet. I'm so pleased to get these chronic problems taken care of.

Our weather is spring-like, more like March or April than May, with near-freezing overnight temperatures and rain during the day. The 10 day forecast predicts more weather like we had last weekend. There is flooding, some of it bad around our area, mostly down in the flatlands below us.

It's a wake-up call for everyone to see how much the rivers were changed by the 2013 floods and rather than think about drawn out fixes for floods we may never see again in our lifetime, folks are scurrying to do something now.

Our pricey Franke kitchen faucet is metal-degraded, has a major leak that I have wrapped a piece of foam rubber around and it has to be changed (like now) because it gets moldy. It is gummed up and is now hard to use and hurts my compromised hand. Finally Ed agreed to replace it but he wants to be part of the selection process and never has time to go with me to Lowe's. Also, he will want to install it himself. Need also to replace shower heads and would love to replace the faucet in his bathroom because sometimes I need to use it and I can't turn it on without using both hands and body language. I am thinking I'll wait till he goes to his guardian meeting (3 days) in July and call a plumber. Voila. He'll be put out but I can live with that. Also his toilet runs and one should wait till it stops before leaving the room so one can jiggle the handle and fix it.

Yes, call the plumber and get all that done. It will be worth every penny and any glum looks from Ed.

It took Don years to realize he wasn't a "handyman". I knew it within the first week of our marriage.

And we know not to tell them, right?

I think what Mr. TBend did was, over about 25 years, trained me not to expect much of his handyman skills so now I'm always impressed when something works out.

Our 'rainy season' is starting very dry! Weather is great--in the 80s during the day and mid 70s at night

Your rainy season is probably over here.
