Another Bride, Another Groom

Remember that wedding I went to in Laredo, Texas where the whole town cheered the bride and groom? They got married in church, and I was the only family member who wasn't the bride's mother, father, or siblings who showed up. The brides aunts and uncles stayed away because they were afraid they'd catch some religion cooties. They missed a good time.

This wedding here was held last Labor Day, not far from my house, and I was sort of invited to it. It was a verbal invitation, but nobody told me the address or the time, so I figured they didn't really mean it. And then later it got back to me that the mother of the groom was surprised I didn't show up. She probably thinks the religious ones (who weren't invited) scared me off. But I wasn't going to go stand at a crossroads in Granby, Colorado in case someone I recognized drove by so I could follow them to the venue.

Finding the photos on the bride's website was as good as going to the wedding.

Mother of the groom, Father of the groom (no longer married to each other), bride/groom, bride's parents.

Check out the bridesmaid dresses. Someone must have dyed the fabric and made the dresses, I don't think you could buy something so ugly.

This is the silliest looking cake. Another photo showed a big chocolate cake from Walmart sitting next to it, so they obviously decided this white thing was not going to feed everyone and someone had to rush out and get the extra.

The bride and groom dress up and participate in medieval reenactments, which is his excuse for keeping the ugly stringy pony tail.

I don't see either one of them in this group - they must have been taking the pictures.

This is the bride at the re-enactment. Her costume is pretty boring, but she at some point lost 200 pounds, so probably feels secure in it.

She's a lovely bride. No comment on him, I just wish he'd get a haircut.

The groom's aunt. She looks a little tipsy, but I think she's just being her normal oddball self.

Good heavens! What's with the silly parasol?

Who's this guy?

Why hire a "chef" when the family has to do all the work?

This explains a lot.

See what I mean?

If this is supposed to be of the cake(s), it's not centered very well.

And then things just got rowdy.

The chef again.

You mentioned the groom's hair three times, leaving me without a wisecrack because I had one all ready. The bride looks great after the weight loss. Check on them in a year and tell me if they're still together or if she has run off with that other guy she was in a photo with. Having the wedding in the middle of a vast panorama of openness is weird. I wouldn't like it. It's a great view but I wouldn't want to live in it.

All I can think of when I see the groom in person is: cut your stupid hair, you look like a fool. He's also a lazy loudmouth, and she is going to end up supporting him. Maybe she wants it that way so she can be in charge. I wonder if they plan to have kids. I sure hope not.

The wedding site looks like a Colorado state park. That's where my little sister got married.

It was at Snow Mountain Ranch, YMCA of the Rockies. Which is funny because that's a Christian organization, but the reason most of the groom's family wasn't invited was they go to church, and the groom's family emphatically does not.

Another sunny, honeymoon....

I can't get that song out of my head now.

There are quite a few empty chairs. One must have been for you. Maybe others didn't get the word, either.
comment by boots586 on July 16, 2012 12:42 PM ()
No doubt one of those chairs was for me. I don't know if they sent written invitations or not, maybe to her work friends. They were so paranoid that Aunt Cathy the Catholic would want to come they mumbled something about it to me out of the side of their mouth and never mentioned it again. But then I find out that was supposed to be my invite.

The bridesmaid dresses leave my eyes blurry. Can't figure those out at all....
I'm trying to focus on the happiness of the occasion, and wish the couple well, but there is a catch-is-as-catch-can quality to the event, sort of like they didn't think of everything and through all the details. They could have used some planning help.

That is so typical of that branch of the family - it's the way they were brought up. After I left home, my mother would write me letters about their latest fiasco that was supposed to be gracious entertainment.

Did the bride's mother marry the grooms father? Their outfits go well together?! Are the bride and groom still married?
The bride's dress is nice and she looks great except for the showing of the leg photo!!
I don't remember the last time I was at a wedding--just like funerals I just don't go!

The respective parents' colors do look coordinated, don't they? As far as I know this bride and groom are still married. He's too lazy to make a change, and she recently lost at least 100 pounds so has low self esteem. She could do so much better, if she only realized it.

What an "interesting" wedding indeed. All those details just leave you wondering!!! And yeah the second I saw those bridesmaid dresses I was all
comment by kristilyn3 on July 16, 2012 6:45 AM ()
Looking at those pictures is about as 'there' as I would want to be. Those dresses are a shame because the bride and groom dressed so nicely. The groom is such an odd duck I'm surprised he wore conventional clothing.

The bride is cute but the groom..not! Those have to be the worst bridesmaids dresses ever. They could have gotten different size white
cakes and stacked them in tiers. I love to do weddings...they could have
used our help.

Just one awkwardness piled upon another. I'm glad I wasn't officially invited and therefore didn't go because there weren't enough people for me to get lost in the crowd. But I had the perfect ugly long dress (and it wasn't tie-dyed).

I have to agree about the bridesmaids' dresses. Those are atrocious.
comment by redimpala on July 16, 2012 4:36 AM ()
I googled 'tie dyed bridesmaid dress' and the photos that came up were much better looking - softer colors for one thing. Maybe that's what she had in mind and it didn't execute well.
