Bighorns

I took these pictures on the way to the post office this afternoon. They get right on the roadway sometimes, but people look out for them, and I've never seen one get hit.

It was cold here yesterday, and these Stellars jays were watching me through the window, all fluffed up to stay warm.

Ah, nature. I love to view it from the outside.

from the INSIDE rather.

Stellars jays are so gorgeous!! The bighorn sheep in Zion Nat'l Park will sometimes wander into the roadway and stop traffic. All the people exit their cars and start taking photos while the sheep keep chewing on whatever they've found.

Those jays are so much fun with their different calls, and that blue color is intense. I'm so glad to see the mountain sheep because they disappeared from near the road last summer, something to do with the drought.

Not much wool on them.

No, there isn't much there. The females and young ones look like they've been shorn - scraggly. The ram looks like a plush carpet.

I am glad people watch out for them. They are so pretty.

The sightseers just slam on the brakes without pulling over - there is more chance of cars getting hit than than the bighorns. One time they were across the highway from us, not a good place to stop, and the cops ran the cars off.

They look like creatures in a fairy tale. Great photos.

It's always magical to see any wild animal, especially when they go on about their business and don't run for their lives like some foxes I could name.

Bighorn what?
Wish I could take pictures but DH just whizzes on by.

They're sheep, but some people would call them mountain goats because they are very agile getting around the rock cliffs. We've had road trips where Mr. YouKnow would say "Look fast" and give it more gas.

I finally remembered to take the camera with me. Last year we barely saw them, and this year they've been right there every time I go that direction. Maybe this means we will get some rain this summer.

They look so majestic!

They really do, with those big horns. For some reason, they are very tame - people get pretty close to them to take photos (I stopped the car and took these through the window). Once in a great while they come onto our land here.
