The Big Game

I'm really surprised that the Denver Broncos are going to the Superbowl. I was superstitious about it: if I didn't think on it too hard, then they'd win today's game against New England, and that's what happened. Some of the playoff games this year were exciting, with unbelievable endings on a couple of them. I've got them recorded and will watch those parts again.

We were supposed to get some snow today, nothing like back east, but it hasn't materialized. I still have so much snow on my road I can't get the car out up to the highway. I look forward to the winter when I can go to Las Vegas for several months and not have to stay here to supervise the flood recovery.

I don't admit it to anybody, but I am watching to make sure the repairs to my damaged road are going to get done. Every time I hear they have to review the budget because it looks like things will cost more than expected, I cringe. The schedules keep changing, and for awhile, it looked like they might be working up here next summer, and now they are not even mentioning it.

The work on our main highway and river can't start until a county road nearby is done because they want to use it for a detour during construction. It was supposed to be completed by December 2015, and now they say it won't be done until June 1, 2016. That puts our project behind.

Ideally, all the major delays would be timed so as to not interfere with tourist traffic, but I think that's a pipe dream by now, because they will be lucky to even get started. They are trying to do 7 years' work in 2 years; the big hurry is that the funding is flood recovery dollars that will expire 4 years after the September 2013 flood.

The bureaucracy thrives. Sorry you are running into all these roadblocks. Hope you can get it done.
