New York, NY - Las Vegas

The New York-New York Casino Hotel in Las Vegas is a fun place to stay.

There are replicas of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, the skyline, and ferry boats.

When they first opened the decor in the casino was whimsical with a statue of liberty that looked like Marilyn Monroe having her skirt blown upwards and fake trees but a couple of years ago they toned it down to art nouveau.

The hotel tower is made of the replica buildings so the hallways are short, and it's interesting getting to your room with all the corners.

Plus you can go outside and figure out which building you are in. We were in the beige one to the right there.

I liked the room because it was just big enough, and the desk between the beds doubled as spacious night tables, which you don't realize makes a difference until you stay somewhere that has no bedside space for your book and reading glasses and glass of water.

Their steakhouse serves aged beef that you can see aging in the display coolers. We didn't eat there, but I'm keeping it in mind for a big celebration.

My Dad always thought beef should be aged three weeks and hung it in the
smoke house swathed in sheets. It was so good.

They took out the fake trees down in the Casino? My ex and I rode in the scary rollercoaster and I thought it was going to pitch me down on the street! It was the last coaster ride I will ever take. I remember the window views of the aging beef!

No more fake trees, but they still have the little areas that feel like NYC neighborhoods. The arcade over by where the coaster starts has been reduced in size, too.
