Word to the Wise - Csi

One of my favorite old CSI Las Vegas programs was the one where a guy died from toxic mold in his house. The mold was caused by a bullet passing through someone's flesh into the drywall, where the organic matter rotted and got moldy. And nobody knew it was there, so it grew unchecked. There was even a little animation to illustrate this point. Hard to say if this was totally fiction, but I'm guessing it was.

Here is something that really happened, from today's Las Vegas news:

"The fire was caused by a nail that had gone through a wire, which heated up the wood enough to ignite it, he said."

The garage fire caused $40,000 damage, and the couple who lived in the house both went to the hospital, and then the husband died of causes unrelated to the fire, but we haven't been told yet what they were. Could be another story for CSI.

Or at the very least, now we all know to be careful when we go around pounding nails into the walls and wherever. I thought it was relatively harmless.

Just one more thing to be cautious about!

I was truly shocked to think this could happen. If I saw it on a TV show, I wouldn't believe it, but it really happened, so now I'm all paranoid. Not that I go around hanging pictures all the time, but I have thought about it.

The writers were looking hard for a plot story when they came up with that CSI.

Circuit breakers fitted to electric meters are compulsory here , they save lives by switching the power off you accidently come in contact with live wires

They are compulsory here, too, so I don't know how that didn't trip their breaker. It might have, and they couldn't find the problem, so tripped it back and it somehow stayed powered up.

If I pounded a nail into the walls the whole place will fall down!

We rented our house in Colorado to some people for a few years and they put nails everywhere to display their various pieces of crap. I'm still finding nails in the oddest places.
