Springtime in the Rockies

If I wasn't in the Rockies right now, this would make me homesick for them.

"Springtime in the Rockies"

When it's springtime in the Rockies
I'm coming back to you
Little sweetheart of the mountains
With your bonnie eyes of blue

Once again I'll say I love you
While the birds sing all the day
When it's springtime in the Rockies
In the Rockies far away

The twilight shadows deepen into night, dear
The city lights are gleaming o'er the snow
I sit alone beside the cheery fire, dear
I'm dreaming dreams from out the long ago

I fancy, it is springtime in the Rockies
The flowers with their colors are aflame
And though I long to be back in the Rockies
I'll wait until the springtime comes again

When it's springtime in the Rockies
I'm coming back to you
Little sweetheart of the mountains
With your bonnie eyes of blue

Here's Gene Autry singing it: https://youtu.be/aVy3imcHrQM

I went to listen to that, and got all nostalgic for other folk songs and music I'd forgotten. I think I also should have watched more cowboy movies when I was young.

My overall memory of cowboy movies is them covering all those miles on the back of a horse. Even today, the 'somewhere' places are far between and it takes us most of the day, sometimes more than one day to get anywhere. It must have been tedious and physically wearing back in the horseback days, because it still is with cars and music and snacks from the truck stops. From a horse there was plenty of time to take in the scenery, but not all the scenery is all that interesting.

Wasn't that a movie with John Payne?

Betty Grable and Carmen Miranda were also in that movie. Carmen and the Rockies - hmmm - I'd like to hear her version of John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High."
