Southwest's Best- Kept Secret

This is driving along the western border of Colorado, along the Dolores River. Highway 141 through Slick Rock, Disappointment Valley, and past Uravan where uranium was mined back in the 1950s.

I refuse to stop and take pictures, so these are taken while driving. Some are better than others.

Here I was trying to capture the teal blue earth on the side of the mesa. I suppose the color comes from copper in the soil.

The river was running high due to snow melt.

The road winds along the river between the vast rock cliffs. It's a treasure of a drive, fantastic scenery, but it really is a well-kept secret, maybe because there are so many other beautiful drives in Colorado that connect more popular destinations.

I'll return when I have waiting time. I checked the atlas and discovered I've never been on 141. Next time! A late season snow fall prevented me from going to the Dolores R. overlook off Hiway 491.

I didn't know if it would come out in the picture, but it's close enough.
