Our squirrels usually hibernate after storing aways hundreds of pine cones, but this winter one of them stayed awake to give the blue jays some competition.

Thanks for letting us know. I remember Beedith. Such an unpredictable, cruel disease.

Early March is usually windy here in Colorado, and I've always thought of that as the lion, and then it mellows out toward the end: the lamb. I wasn't aware of the constellation connection - it makes sense. This year, hasn't been very lion-like so far, although we did have sub-zero overnight lows, which is very unusual for this time of year.

That's funny about Tom Clancy. I feel that way about Louis L'Amour's writing. The only novel of his I've read was about time travel, one of my favorite themes. There was a little glimmery rectangle near the sandstone cliff, step through it and you're in Anasazi/cliff dwelling time. Every 10 pages or so, Louis would recap the entire plot of the book, as if he either couldn't remember what he'd written, or was trying to pad out the word count to make it look like a substantial work of literature.

I often start to write something here, but there's usually a back story that takes too much telling, and I decide it's simply too much to go into.

Good luck at the cardiologist. I hope he has all the answers.

I wasn't happy to turn 70, felt like the previous 5 years were frittered away with dealing with natural disasters in my home region, and then the pandemic. Several months later, I'm more accepting of it, but it reminds me of back in the day when certain women refused to admit they were older than 29 - I could go around telling people I'm 69.

I think some of our daytime temps here in Colorado are warmer than that, but a cold front is coming in. It's 30 below on the west side of the mountains, and only 50 miles to the east, on the Front Range it's 80 degrees warmer.

I just now remembered you used to have a bird living in your house. That always intrigued me, and around the time you were writing about it, I had a dream that our friendly fox was living inside the house, but it wasn't that he was tame and like a pet - it was only a truce.

I'm so glad you're still with us, looking forward to the day you reach some kind of equilibrium state where you feel better. It's probably too much to hope that you could feel 20 years younger, shooting for 10.

A year or two after my dad died I found a handwritten account of his World War II experience in the South Pacific. It was not much like what he'd told us a time or two. Not that it's a huge deal: no atrocities or anything racy, but what he actually did (or said he did with regard to aviation) was far more interesting than what we had to talk about at his funeral that was attended by all his pilot buddies.

The difference made me wonder why he couldn't have just told us in the first place, instead of there being two versions.
