I liked that you call it a pecan farm that just happens to have a house on it, instead of you bought a house, and oh, by the way, there's 1000 pecan trees.
I have a new resolve to grow some garden vegetables this year - am setting up a planter/raised bed in where I hope it will get more sun. Peppers, tomatoes, zucchini.
All these 50 or so years 'men' - the men in charge of our country and the women who enable them - appear to have been smoldering under the oppression of women's liberation and they are now empowered to put us in our place.
Seems like movies are trimmed to fit a certain duration, and a lot of story gets lost in the process. I always marvel at those movies from the 50s and 60s that ran for three and four hours, so long that there was an intermission built in. Now, it's hard to watch them because the slow pace feels like self-indulgence and showing off on the part of the directors. Another thing I don't like about the movies from the 60s and 70s was the costuming, particularly womens' hair styles - those bee-hives! I'm betting the Grecian women and the western frontier women didn't sport those styles.
But the new shorter movies move too quickly for me. Often I feel like my brain doesn't have time to process what are probably key scenes, and I'm sure it is a function of my age. And also, the lighting is often so dim I can't see what is going on, plus all the 30-something male actors look the same to me, so I don't know the bad guys from the good guys.
What I regret the most is that back story scenes get cut in the need to cram a coherent story into 90 minutes, and they would have vastly increased my understanding of the overall plot of the movie.
But movies are still movies, and once in awhile I give one of them a chance to charm me.
One of the things I don't miss about my former renters is how they would buy into the right-wing conspiracy theories like 'the Democrats have totally shut down domestic oil production' and 'the Democrats are going to take away all our guns.'
I'm pleased to hear you like it - usually if I see something is based on a comic book, I avoid it. I'll start watching it tonight.
I dine out maybe 3 times a year, including fast food. Last month Mr. TBend flew here for the weekend to help me buy a new truck, and we ate in restaurants two times. I was disappointed both times - poorly prepared food - but I think he liked what he ordered, so I didn't say anything.
I think if we went out more often, there'd be more opportunities for some great meals, and it would balance out.
A bad fall like that just shakes us to our core - just the sound of your body hitting the floor is frightening. When people of a certain age hit their head in a fall, I always worry about a brain bleed that eventually gets them and they die. I'll be thinking about you... let us know when you get to feeling better.
The third email got through. Thanks!
I always enjoy your restaurant reviews, and it's fun to think of you and Allen out and about.
Back when I used to subscribe to Netflix's DVD service, my favorite part was the outtakes because they were often scenes that explained a lot about the story in the final product.
I can relate - there's been things I've had to do on the back end of my websites that were difficult for me to get done, like updating the php version, and it took a lot of googling and back-and-forth for ideas. I finally figured out how to do it, as far as I know, but promptly forgot what I had to do. If it comes up again, I'll re-learn it, but I'm hoping I die first.
I did a trial of one of those slice and dice meal services and decided it was meant to teach people new techniques and introduce them to creative spices and flavorings. And use a lot of packaging. As you say, it was a lot of work because I was trying to follow their recipes exactly so it wouldn't come out the like my usual cooking.
There's one where you buy their special toaster oven for $250 and then it scans a code on the prepared meal packages that cost extra, and cooks them for the exact amount of time required.
Well, this just reminds me that we are all getting up in years if this is what you're talking about instead of carrot cake and streaming reviews and other fun things. I don't know the answer, but if I come across something, I'll let you know. Hope things are going better for you.
I've put them on my list of things to watch. Will let you know what I think.
