From Today's Las Vegas Sun:
After some light blogging over the past few days (blame it on the chronicles of a European tour that is the cover of Las Vegas Weekly this week), it is high time to run the rake across the scene:
• Are you especially adept at milling about in a candid sort of way? If so, a casting director for the upcoming HBO movie “Behind the Candelabra†might be interested in hiring you as an extra for the film, which is shooting on location at LVH this month.
An open casting call is set for Sunday and Monday at LVH Ballroom C to fill roles for background actors in the film. The times are 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 6 p.m. Monday. The film shoots scenes in the hotel, where Liberace headlined in the day it was known as the Las Vegas Hilton, from Aug. 24-30.
No air date for the biopic has been announced, but the first photos of Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as his longtime companion Scott Thorson have been published by the New York Daily News. Douglas is wearing a well-coiffed black wig, sizable shades and a yellow suit over a flower-patterned, button-down shirt. Damon’s hair is long and blond and parted in the middle. Kind of a Shaun Cassidy-influenced look, actually. Both actors appear pretty convincing, suitably dated and well-attired.

The Liberace Museum has infused some authenticity into the project by lending cars and other artifacts from the late showman’s collection at the closed-to-the-public Liberace Museum. But the Liberace Museum and Foundation has put the brakes on a formal endorsement of the film, noting (accurately) that the movie depicts a small segment of Liberace’s life as told by a onetime confidant with whom the entertainer had an oft-stormy relationship.
