House Fire up the Road

The other day, right about the time it started snowing, the power went out and shortly after I saw a fire truck on the highway heading west. Here is the story from the paper:

Flames severely damaged a structure Tuesday afternoon in the Big Thompson Canyon east of Estes Park. The afternoon fire closed down Hwy. 34 to traffic. It was partially reopened to west bound traffic by 5:30 p.m. and traffic both ways by 7 p.m. ¶

The fire was reported on Oct. 25. The Estes Valley Fire Protection District was paged to 2359 Big Thompson Canyon at 3:47 p.m.¶

The first arriving engine reported a well involved structure fire with power lines involved and initiated an exterior attack due to extremely hazardous conditions caused by the power line and a partial roof collapse. The occupants were not at home.¶

Highway 34 was closed for a period of time while firefighters drafted water from the Big Thompson River to fight the fire. The fire was brought under control at approximately 4:30 p.m. and firefighters remained on scene until 8 p.m. extinguishing hot spots and searching for any hidden fire in the structure. There were no injuries.¶

Mutual aid was provided by the Big Thompson Canyon Volunteer Fire Department. Estes Park Light and Power also assisted with de-energizing and securing the power line that was involved. ¶

The house sustained heavy damage and investigations into the cause are on-going.¶

That isn't a very big house, so I was surprised the article doesn't say the house was totally destroyed.

Glad it didn't spread into the forest.

It's been so dry - that was just about the time our snowstorm started that brought a foot of snow.

"When I stay up too late, I am likely to fee de-energized." Is that the sort of idea he was laughing about?
