I have this habit of hanging on to things, of trying to hold on to objects I like. For instance: Years ago I bought this Emerson brand clock/radio, and it has the most superb radio of any I have ever had, as good as a Boze.
When I bought this Emerson, it only cost like $12.00. It's about hand high, and shaped like an atomic cooling tower; sort of oval shaped. Over the years I dropped it a few--well, be honest--many times--and I know that wasn't good for it, and I had a habit of pulling it by the cord to hoist it from the nightstand onto my bed so I could turn it off when my programs went off.
Well, it stopped working; it had a short in it, in the cord, I could tell, because when you wriggle the cord around it blinks out and the time flashes etc. I put up with that for months but unplugged it when I wasn't listening to it for fear it would burn down the house. Finally I threw it in the trash, but could not, have not, been able to find another that comes anywhere near the quality of this one. I've bought two clock radios recently and returned both for the sorry radios they had.
I called the Emerson company--they don't make this model anymore. Doesn't anyone listen to the radio anymore? So I retrieved my old clock from the trash and took it to a handyman who kept it for a week and called me to come get it. He said he opened it up and it looks like it's been struck by lightning, and the cord was burned inside the radio (I know that was my fault, not lightning) and he charged me $20.00 for his time. He said "Things wear out and there comes a time when you have to let it go."
So this beloved Emerson sits on my bedside stand, but its days are numbered--I'm gonna have to toss it out for good--again!

Well I just realized when I clicked the topic channel, I hit military jobs and careers, when I meant to click Life and Events. Sorry if anyone was confused!
