Let's see, on July 20, 1969 men first set foot on the moon. That's been 40 years ago. FORTY YEARS! Where has the time gone? Neil Armstrong has been very reclusive and uncommunicative about this unprecedented day. He comes across as a strange person.
Then I read that NASA says they must have erased and taped over the original tapes of the moon landing, which is strange in itself--It would be extremely odd that they would be so casual about such an historic event. Maybe some goober stashed the tapes in a vault somewhere and NASA is embarrassed to say they lost them. But it's stuff like that that feeds "The government made it up and the moon landing is a hoax" conspiracy theorists.
Back in July 1969 I was married to an Army Sgt.who was with a helicopter unit in Vietnam. I had two stepchildren and two girls by the Sgt; my youngest baby girl was a year old. Besides taking care of them, I was working part time while he was in Vietnam. He was an alcoholic and I didn't miss him a bit.
I watched the moon landing on a black and white TV in a little tract house, surrounded by children, amazed and awed by the moon coverage.
With the Sgt. gone I realized I was capable of running the household, but felt like I was drowning and wanted out of the marriage but didn't know I'd manage. I didn't know how to make that first small step to wrest away from him.
That's where I was in July 1969. Where were you?
