Who Sleeps on Satin Sheets?

I bought a set of king sized--winter themed--sheets on sale at Walmart. These sheets have a pine cone pattern, and they feel like flannel. Thread count wasn't mentioned--nope these sheets are made of 100% polyester.
Friend Raine was here and helped me put them on. Well what do you know--they were too big. Raine says they are California king, which the label didn't mention.

As we put these sheets on Raine mentioned her favorite bed sheets she had once--satin sheets. Oh what a laugh that was. I told her about buying a set of ruby red satin sheets years ago. I was between husbands and out to impress.

Oh they looked so fine on the bed. To lie down on them was a luxuriant feeling. In fact, as soon as I had those satin sheets on, I lay down and took a nap. Then I turned over, and whoosh! I slid out of bed onto the floor. It was hard to maintain traction on those sheets!
After a while I gave them away, but kept the pillowcases--loved those.
The satin sheets period in my life reminds me of those days when men wore lime color polyester leisure suits--surely the ugliest things ever invented, and the guys were letting their hair grow long and had long shaggy sideburns, and open neck shirts and lots of gold chains that competed with chest hair for attention. (I can't believe I married one of those. OMG. Husband #2.)
Satin sheets, polyester leisure suits, trying pot-yep I'm old enough to have lived through that stage.
I was invited to a fellow nurses house one Saturday night and arrived to find lots of cars there, and when I knocked on the front door, the voices inside went silent. My nurse friend peeked out, saw it was me, and let me in, to a smoke filled house. I didn't know it was pot, I was a virgin as far as pot was concerned. But they made room for me on the sofa, and passed a joint along.

I was coughing and choking and everybody was yelling "Inhale and hold it!" Soon I mellowed out. Love the effects of pot, wish it was legal, and alcohol was illegal.

Anyway, the satin sheet discussion reminded me of those days.
As for the pine cone sheets, I hate the fact that they slip and slide around because they're too big, so they'll have to go. Next time I'll look for real sheets with thread count.

Oh Sue, you made me remember one of my boyfriends in the seventies who had
black satin sheets, gold chains and was as good looking as George Clooney.
He proposed and I had sense enough to refuse.

Hi jeri; Guys like that thought they were so cool! Oh my goodness, you had the presence of mind to say NO.

My dear friend, Bella, who passed a few years ago, used to have a cleaning lady come once a week and one of her jobs was ironing the bedding. In those days, I had a cleaning lady too, but was too embarrassed to ask her to iron the sheets. It seemed like such a princess thing to do. Anyway, I do the bedding and put it back on the bed and give it a rest every so often when I change to a different set. The sheets smell great, fresh out of the dryer and I like to use them right away and also it saves me folding the fitted sheet, which always gives me a headache. I just bought deep blue-green sheets to use instead of ivory -- the color complements the comforter design. If I were starting over, I'd just use white for everything. But I'm stuck with tons of color now and it's too difficult to change things.

Hi teal; I know it seems "princessy" to iron sheets, so I've never asked anyone to, but I myself do sometimes iron the top flap on some of my sheets because my OCD can't stand to see the turned under wrinkly-ness of it.
I've tried to learn how to fold fitted sheets and darn it, they always turn out messy! So I toss the ill folded fitted one in the dryer for a few minutes and it helps get the wrinkles out before I put it on.
Mmmmm-blue green sheets, teal, like your name?

I'll take percale sheets any day. Sheets tend to last forever for me, what I go through are pillow cases. Next time I buy sheets, I'm buying extra pillow cases. And I saw an old TV show, "Cannon," from the 70s this weekend, and there was a guy wearing that lime green suit. Hope those suits are all dead and buried in a landfill by now!

marta, you know I meant next sheets I buy, not I but...

Hi marta; next sheets I but I'll look for percale, and I'm like you--the pillowcases always wear the fastest!
Anyway, sometimes I'll see an old show from that leisure suit period and wonder what on earth were men thinking to wear those??

Sheets are you serious.I do not sleep on sheets(kidding)The sheet that I detect is the Egyptian cotton and cannot stand them.Every time that you washed them they get so wrinkling
for me hard to make the bed at times. These are 100%cotton.They can have them and they are pretty expensive.I like mine with a little polyester in them.

Hi fredo; I agree; wrinkly sheets are the pits==cotton mixed with a little polyester works best, in my humble opinion.
I bought an Egyptian cotton tablecloth at the Egyptian pavilion at the New Orleans Worlds's Fair years ago--it's printed with Anciet Egyptian figures around the border, love that cloth, but it tends to be wrinkly and I have to iron it every time I wash it.
Sleep well!

It's hard to find good sheets these days. My cousin had some '100% cotton' from JC Penney that were loosely woven, coarse, and cheap feeling, made me think of muslin. I can't remember what thread count they claimed to have. I find that most of the expensive all-cotton high thread count sheets are limp and wimpy after washing, but some people seem to like that. My favorite is the percale from my childhood - dried on the clothesline and had a crisp feel. There might have been some polyester in there for permanent press, but they weren't slinky. I would love to have one of those mangles that were used for ironing sheets and tablecloths.

Okay travel; I didn't realize it was you, Laura, but thanks for visiting anyway!

Hi travel; I prefer "crispy" sheets, and some of the higher thread count sheets are too soft, limp and wimpy as you describe it. What I hate are those sheets that pill up--it's hard to find just the right kind of sheets.
(I have a set of Martha Stuart sheets that I like a lot, except I sometimes
have to iron out the top sheet flap.)
Hey thanks for visiting my blog!
