This morning I went to see the ophthalmologist for a follow up visit and she wrote an Rx for bifocals. But I asked for and got an Rx for readers and one for everything else--two pairs of glasses to keep track of.
Then before leaving Hattiesburg went by Wallymart to have some air put in a tire. Noticed a guy with an un-Mississippi accent waiting for some work being done. He was watching an employee who was down on the ground on his back trying to hook up wires or something from a trailer to the back of a pickup. The pickup had South Dakota plates.
Turns out the pickup owner was a Native American who had come to claim a Katrina trailer, one of several hundred that the government is giving away. Don't know how he found out about the giveaway--maybe Native Americans were given special access. He said since the trailer was free, all he had to pay for was the gas to get from S.Dakota to Mississippi.
He told me what tribe he was from but I can't remember what he said. He works for an oil company in S. Dakota, and says there's lots of oil wells there--supposedly the oil there is high grade crude. I asked if they had a casino on the rez, he says not yet. I suggested they get one and get every penny they can from white saps. Indians deserve every thing they can get from "white people." They deserve it more than any other racial or ethnic group in the United States. I wish I'd thought to give him my address and phone # so he might could hook me up with an old fella up there.
Geeze! I never think fast enough!
