Last night watched "Oklahoma!" that wonderful old musical on TCM. The movie is set in Oklahoma Territory just before it became a state.
Starring Gordon McRae as cowboy Curly, Shirley Jones as pretty blonde Laurey, and Rod Steiger as a farm hand with a dark obsession for Laurey.

Such wonderful songs from that show--"Surrey With The Fringe On Top" "People Will Say We're In Love" "I'm A Girl Who Can't Say No" "Oh What A Beautiful Morning" and of course the title song, "Oklahoma," which goes "We know we belong to the land, and the land we belong to is grand, we're doing fine Oklahoma; Oklahoma, okay!"

The only thing I didn't like about the movie was a Shirley Jones incongruous dream where in silence, a modern dance and ballet sequence was acted out.

This movie filmed in 1955 has maintained its great bright vibrant color, unlike another of my favorite musicals from this time, "South Pacific," where the color has faded and the film was drab.

What a treat to see on TCM in the course of a few weeks "Oklahoma!" "South Pacific" and "Showboat." They don't make 'em like that anymore.
