Primped and Painted

First, I went to vote this past Tuesday, Democrat ballot of course, and it took all of 5 seconds. The ballot was sparse. On the ballot, Barack Obama was all by his lonely little self, then there were a couple of statewide offices up for grabs--never heard of either of the candidates, so I voted for the ones with the most interesting names.

Then I went to the Big City to have my driver's license renewed. Now in Mississippi, you can renew your license for 8 years, and you can get your license renewed months before it's due. I had heard you didn't have to get a new photo if you didn't want to, but I called and some girl said "Absolutely you have to have a new photo."

I decided to renew before I have my hair cut. It's longer than it's been in ages. So that morning I rolled it and teased it and hair sprayed it to get it just right and put on lots of makeup. I don't usually wear makeup, but I've found if you don't exaggerate the makeup, the photo on the license makes your face washed out and it winds up looking like a mug shot.
So what happened was the employee renewed the license for 8 years, said I didn't have to have a new photo if I wanted to keep the old one, (and I kept the old one) and all she did was change the expiration date on the new one; I paid $43.00 and was out the door. Except for the expiration date, the new one is exactly like the old one; signature, weight, everything.

It seems to me that when a person is having their license renewed would be a good time for the Highway Patrol to ask "Had any changes in eyesight, strokes, any medical problem that might be an impairment to driving?" And to ask the renewer to show proof of insurance. But none of that messy stuff--nope you pay and out the door . A license is just a formality. Sigh.

I got home and removed all the primp stuff because my skin isn't used to it and feels like it's suffocated with the makeup on. (Although I noticed when I went by Academy Sports before I came home, that people treat you better when the face is made up and you look nicer. A few pennies worth of makeup makes a difference.)

I laughed at the thought of all that hair teasing and makeup for nought - the kind of thing that would happen to me. Hope you're having a great day, Sue.

I've known that about makeup since I was 14. I do makeup every day if I'm going out, whether on an errand or to bike or walk. It's regular go to work New York style. I ain't gone native.

Sue, I put on my make up every day because it makes ME feel better and since
it has a sunscreen in it, it is good for the skin.
