I was depressed even after apologizing to Connie, so instead of doing errands I needed to do, I stayed home and got stuck watching an all day long marathon of "Mad Men" on AMC.
This series has won awards and rightfully so. It's about an ad agency called Sterling Cooper on Madison Avenue, set in the 50's and 60's, and the selling of ads and products to Americans. Back then men wore hats, the phones were all dial ups, everybody smoked continually, and home decor was familiar. Plaid wallpaper, the furniture, I've seen it in real life.
Women's hairstyles were the big upswept French twist 'do's or Jackie Kennedy flipped on the ends style. Women wore dresses with flouncy skirts with the petticoats--it's all very authentic. But Oh, the best thing about Mad Men is the leading man, the handsomest guy on TV, Jon Hamm who plays Don Draper.
The character of Don Draper looks like a cross between Cary Grant and Gregory Peck--tall, dark hair, incredibly good looking, and a wonderful--shall I say-- figure--? Don has a secret. During the Korean war, he assumed the identity of a soldier who had been killed so he could get out of it. Don's real name is Dick Whitmore. But all the characters have facets of hidden lives.
Have you seen it? Good show!
