Wow! Gorgeous day here in deep south Mississippi; bright sunshine, 78 degrees, cool breeze, low humidity, birds singing, redbud trees, daffodils and cape jessamine blooming.
And what makes it soooo luscious is that in this small window of time there are no mosquitos, no love bugs; the hornets and wasps are still hibernating. Yesterday I got a visitor to plant my Miss Saigon irises-- which had started to sprout--next to a stump in the yard. Our poking around disturbed ants inside the stump and they swarmed out.
Luckily they were our placid native ants, not fire ants. The ants saw we weren't out to bother them, so they retreated back to their business. Fire ants on the other hand would have swarmed out at warp speed and followed us and attacked us with all ferocity, and bit the tar out of us.
Another visitor brought me a cabbage from his garden and I got him to change the batteries in the smoke alarm in the hall. Maybe that's why visitors are loathe to come see me--they get asked to "do me a little favor while you're here." Oh well-- you ask for help no matter the source!
