I keep a picture of Charles Lindbergh on my office wall just because he was such a handsome man, with a dimple in his chin.
Now I've seen something on the History Channel about Charles Lindbergh that surprised me. The sames Lindbergh who flew the Spirit of St. Louis across the Atlantic, the same man who had his son kidnapped--that Charles Lindbergh became pro Nazi--he admired their order, their discipline, their control--traits he himself possessed.
Roosevelt said he had "acute moral failure" and was a pro-Nazi traitor. He wasn't allowed to join any of the military services because of this.
Lindbergh was also a supporter of Nazi eugenics, believing that white Christian genes were the best quality and the ones needing to be preserved and passed along.
He had a complex private life. He and his wife Ann Morrow Lindbergh had five children. But what is shocking is that Lindbergh had three secret families in Germany and had children by all three of his mistresses. These covert families were sworn to secrecy. DNA tests have confirmed he is the father of the seven children in Germany.
Lindbergh died of lymphoma in 1974 and is buried on a remote spot in Hawaii. He expected his wife to be buried near him, but she made other arrangements. He lies on the far edge of America, alone.
