Gruntled

Last night I was channel surfing and got stuck on one channel--the remote wouldn't work. Well, I figured the dang thing needed batteries, and luckily after scratching around in my supply box found some AAA batteries. Popped out the old ones and installed the new. Still the remote was frozen.
I checked the Direct TV cable box. I checked out the TV itself.  I pushed buttons. Nada. Oh oh--must be the satellite itself, anchored to the back roof. I finally called Direct TV customer service and explained the problem. The guy and I went down a checklist of possible problems. Lastly he said "You just put new batteries in the remote--did you in install them right?"
Well, of course. I was indignant. I was careful to put them in correctly. He said check again. Sure enough, I had managed to put both batteries in-- positive side up. After I did it right, guess what? The TV worked again. I was so embarrassed. I apologized to the customer service guy for being such an idiot.
Gee, and I was just in time to watch the 11pm re-run of Larry King, where a guy had some film clips of an alien he said peeped in his window, and around the door of his kitchen. Incredulous! I turned him off and started to bed. Then I noticed a busy line of ants around the baseboard of the dining room. Grrrr--they come back every year.
I sprayed everything with Raid, and disgruntled, went to sleep while the overpowering odor of bug killer permeated the house. I hope I'm gruntled again real soon!       Susil

Su, boric acid powder sprinkled around baseboards and in cabinets
will kill roaches. They lick it off their tentacles (or
whatever) and it poisons them. Maybe it could work for ants.
I cleaned out a friend's apartment once and he had a major
problem so I know it works. Now that I have thought of it, I
will try it here.

We have had teensy ants for several months. Recently I noticed
a safari of them crawling around the floor near the cabinet.
I stepped on them with my foot in a sock. Mostly I flush
them down the sink if they are on a dish left out with food
in it. I sing while I do it. These are not like normal ants.
In my loft up north I was stepping on a bunch of ants and when
I lifted my foot, they would uncurl and go on their way.
I finally solved the problem by vaccuming them all up.
That time I laughed maniacally.

We get knats every year, and like clock work their back, We have a hard time getting rid of them. Is it hot there? It's hotter than blue blazes around here...
