Okay, so I'm a gripe-y old butthead, and today I got gripe-y again. This is the thing. I go to physical therapy at our county hospital. The Nurse Practioner had faxed the treatment order to the Physical Therapist. So the first day I was there she and her assistant did their thing--put hot moist heat to shoulder, ultrasound, massage, etc.
Neither introduced themselves. Am I old fashioned? They knew my name--I didn't know theirs. I found out the assistant's name, and the last name of the PT. Today I asked the PT what was her name and she told me. Sheer professionalism should have made introducing themselves to a new client routine.
And I think they should say, "we're going to try these treatments to help preserve and improve function." That would have made me feel a lot better.
I had asked the PT to please warm up the ultrasound gel--they take off the hot packs, (inexpertly applied), and then put that cold gel on. Today she had warmed the gel--big difference, much better! I said they needed a recliner in their therapy room, so someone like me with hot packs to upper back could lie back on them, with head raised a bit. PT said "the hospital is not going to buy us a recliner." They should.
But next appointment, I'm gonna suggest how about an old hospital bed, one even with a crank to roll up the head but still allow the client to lie back on the hot packs. I bet they've got one stored around somewhere. Oh yes, a crank is what they need.
Bye y'all, susil
