I've been going to PT to try to get some feeling back in my right hand (nerve entrapment caused the fingers of right hand to feel as dead as a baseball mitt.) Deep down I don't really think the therapy is gonna help, but giving it the ole college try.
Well folks, Friday evening I was talking on the phone and took a big gulp of water from a bottle between words. Bad bad idea. One should NEVER NEVER talk and eat or drink at the same time. Everybody knows that. So, that big gulp of water went down my lungs and I coughed so hard I lost my breath.
My friend on the phone was alarmed when she heard me coughing so hard. I couldn't breathe and strangled and coughed and kept it up for a good 15 minutes. I finally got enough air to croak on the phone "call you later," and coughed some more. The next morning my throat was raw from coughing--but I noticed something--I had some prickly feelings in my fingers.
The coughing spell has either nudged the disc in my neck off the nerve a little, or loosened up some of the muscle spasm-ed tightness in my arm--or something. Now I have pins and needles sensation in those fingers. I'm so happy--I can live with pins and needles. With that increase in sensation I can button buttons and do other things. I called it "The Coughing Cure" but "coughing treatment" is more apt.
Bye y'all, susil
