Early this morning Dottie phoned--we were talking about the oil slick mess. I was saying the drillers should have had all the emergency contingencies covered, like : What would we do if so and so happens? Be proactive, be ready, have some plans in place, instead of being reactive, and wait till an emergency arises then sit around and scratch their heads wondering what to do. That is criminal.
Both Dottie's sons work for the oil companies, so she is defending BP and says They are doing everything they can. They didn't expect an emergency like this. Well, Dottie, they should have anticipated every possibility for disaster before the drilling started and had a game plan. Surely there's somebody with enough brains in BP to have come up with a manual outlining unexpected events and response to same.
I'm ashamed to say the nearest gas station to my house is a BP station and I still buy gas from them--if I had any integrity I'd go to a different station to do business.
President Obama is going to be in Venice Louisiana today. I know he has already shown his annoyance about BP's slackard sluggish response to the disaster. This is his 9/11. I hope he shows leadership and courage in making BP take responsibility for what they have done.
