Acute Pleasure
A hayfield 10 miles away is a thing of beauty right now. The field was cleared of haybales last fall and nothing but brown grass stubble remained for all these months. Now that field is covered with tiny blue and yellow flowers that look like a velvety soft plush carpet has been laid down over the field.
The purple violets are beginning to bloom and the white iris and snowdrops are co-existing and blooming by the hickory stump in the yard. Driving by the house, it looks so pretty to see those white irises.
I saw a display of windchimes at Dollar General yesterday, and talked myself into buying three to add to the three others already hanging over the swing. All it takes is a slight breeze to set the chimes tinkling and softly gonging. The soft balmy air smells sweet and fresh.
I don't think I've ever enjoyed a spring more than this one, every sight sound and smell is acutely pleasurable.
I rue that the forest service is burning off undergrowth in DeSoto National Forest this time of year, because birds, especially ground nesting birds like chuck will's widow and turkey that are trying to build nests.
Wildlife faces another threat, ergo:
Thursday I went to a meeting at the schoolhouse, held by MDOT concerning where the proposed new widening of highways 57 and 98 will be. Two routes are being studied. One route will come within 150 feet of my house and cut through the already beleagured DeSoto National Forest. (The other route I voted for would follow already existing highway routes.) Wildlife and environmental issues will be factored into the studies--so they say. Threats against wildlife and the environment are never ending.
