I WISH I could stop watching the news...I think I'd be better off if I did. It's ALL bad ALL the time.

I watch but get very disgusted. The news anchors seem to enjoy tragedy and bad news so much.

Rarely, do we watch the national news - subconsciously, perhaps because of the type of gloom you mentioned. I do occasionally watch the Welsh news, as it is so local and therefore usually, of interest to us personally.
Don't dismay though, you never know when a news item may be the 'very one'
which brightens your life, for whatever reason

Know what you mean. I like to keep informed, but it is depressing.

The news is definitely discouraging. I catch the news online, so that I can pick and choose what I 'hear.' Silly, maybe...but sometimes the news can be overwhelming.

Since my sister died, I haven't read the news or watched the news or webbed the news. I don't care about that right this red hot minute. And I got trapped talking to some rabid "patriot" who wears his patriotism on his mouth. Just to make sure I don't want to go back to the news. I'm gonna live.

I know what you mean by the headlines

I'm with redimpala... I don't watch news shows, don't read a newspaper, and the less I know about the day's events, the happier I am in my own little coccoon.

Well, that is a cheery way to start off your web experience.

When I lived in Dallas, I just would not watch the news...Throw in rape, murder, abduction or horrible mistreatment of children with all the above and you had the Dallas news. It was so depressing I completely quit watching it.

There are a few things of concern there to some people. I think we need to consider that things seem "worse" these days because of the instant access we have to so much information. Think about history: There is usually a war going on someplace, but it wasn't until Viet Nam that it began to show up in one's living room every night. There have been plaques with no cure (compare HIV/AIDS), Earthquakes (Pompey comes to mind), Famines (the dust bowl), droughts and floods. It's not the bad news that's new, just our access to it that's different these days. Does that cheer you up any?

Newspapers never print upbeat news. Good news does not sell newspapers and they will slant news to the bad side for profit. The majority do not care about truth in reporting.

Problems, catastrophes, anger--everyday we are assaulted by bad news. I am so ready for a turn around and some good happenings.
