If the machine works, it may not be the motor. If adjusting the load helps, my thought is a belt or other part of the coupling from the motor to the drum. The repair person would be able to figure it out. Good luck.

I think the term is "lens flare". Sometimes it's considered an interesting effect in pictures of the sun and other bright lights.
