Isn't That What Mothers Are Supposed to Do?

The flowers that Holly sent me for Mother's Day.  She always orders her flowers through 1-800-Flowers.  They do a really nice job, so next time you need to send flowers you might keep them in mind.
We had another nice rain yesterday and last night.  Everything is really green and lovely here because we have had such a wet winter and spring.  And no storms with this rain.  Just cooler temperatures and a nice slow, steady rain.
Yesterday, Little Buddy's class had a cute little program for parents and their fellow students.  Each student dressed as an inventor, prepared a display appropriate to their inventor, and gave a prepared speech about that person.  Guests went from desk to desk and the particular student explained who he was, what he invented, and how it has benefited mankind.
Kenzie was Bette Naismith Graham, who invented liquid paper, or whiteout. She, by the way, was a Dallas native and the single mother of Mickey Naismith of The Monkees.  She originally called it "Mistake Out" and invented it to correct her errors as an executive secretary.
An efficient employee who took pride in her work, Graham sought a better way to correct typing errors. She remembered that artists painted over their mistakes on canvas, so why couldn’t typists paint over their mistakes?

She mixed some tempera paint with water to match the stationery she used in a bottle and took her watercolor brush to the office. She used this to correct her typing mistakes… her boss never noticed. Soon another secretary saw the new invention and asked for some of the correcting fluid. Graham found a green bottle at home, wrote "Mistake Out" on a label, and gave it to her friend. Soon all the secretaries in the building were asking for some, too.

From a project that started in her kitchen, it grew into a multi-million dollar enterprise.  In 1980, just months before she died, she sold her company for 47.5 million.
From little ideas, big companies grow.
Tonight is Holly and Bevan's fundraiser for the equestrian center that specializes in giving developmentally challenged children an opportunity to interact with horses and to learn to ride.  Animals have such a positive impact on children, so I am really glad to see them spending some of their money to help this very worthy project.
They also recently made a donation to Oklahoma University to help students who need financial assistance.    Holly worked every day she was in college and also had financial aid, so she knows how tough it is to get an education.
Bailey just returned last week from a mission trip to Atlanta.  This was just a four-day trip; but she and her dad are going to Panama Beach, Florida for a week-long-mission trip at the end of June.  Bevan will also be teaching Bible School the first week in June.
My Tay-Tay, as I called him when he was small, graduates from high school in less than two weeks.  Where does the time go?  It seems just yesterday that I was picking up a little blond two-year-old on Saturday morning to take him out for a pancake breakfast, his favorite yet today.  He reports to college in Salt Lake right after the 4th of July.
The college he's attending is on a quarterly schedule rather than on semesters.  Students go to school year round, four total quarters, with three-week breaks between the quarters.
So much for all my bragging about my sweet family....but isn't that what mothers are supposed to do! On that note I will close and simply say....

Isn't 800-flowers kind of like them middle-man, where a local florist actually does the work? In other words, to quality is dependent on the quality of the local place and not the 800-flowers company.

The card had that it was from 1-800-FLOWERS. Holly always uses them. If you go to the website, you select the arrangement you want and that is what will be delivered.

The inventor fair sounds like a great way to get kids to realize they can make a difference in this world with simple ideas that solve big problems.

It was really very interesting. Another little girl did hers on the woman who invented the Barbie doll; one little boy chose Levi Strauss. We really enjoyed it.

I get my Mom candy. It is all she wants or enjoys. I have to carefully read the candy ingredients so there are no nuts. She can't chew. LOL

Candy is another great Mother's Day gift; that and taking your mother out for a Mother's Day dinner.
