Will the REAl NUMBER ONE TEAM PLEASE STAND UP? Is it Texas, Is it OSU, Is it Bama, is it Penn State?
We can now--at least for the time being--eliminate Oklahoma, LSU, and Mizzou. All three went down in defeat today.
The Big 12 and the Southeast Conference have a problem....just when one team from either conference works its way into the top four, along comes one of their own conference foes to unseat them.
Witness this week's games when the Number One, Number three, and Number Four teams all fell to a team from their conference.
OU was knocked out of the catbird seat today by Number five Texas 35-25; Number three Mizzou lost to Number Seventeen Oklahoma State 28-23,and Florida manhandled LSU today, beating the Tigers by almost 30 points.
Bama at Number Two had the week off. Texas gets Mizzou next week, but the Tigers are too one-dimensional. I look for Texas to remain undefeated. LSU is definitely Out of the national title picture with two losses.
OSU proved they could play with anyone today! That makes the Texas-OSU matchup huge. It also has repercussions for the OU-OSU bedlam game to come at the end of the season.
Texas Tech remains undefeated. Look for them to move up but not a lot. They had to go to OT to beat unranked Nebraska today.
All I can say is that it is going to be wild and crazy in the Big 12 and the Southeast conference.
That could open the door for a team from a lesser conference, such as Brigham Young, to climb in the ratings if they remain unbeaten.
