Big Sissy Turns 14!

Saturday was Bailey's fourteenth birthday.  It's so hard for me to believe that she can be that age.  I mentioned to Holly the other day that it scares me to think she will be going away to college in just four years; Holly replied that it scared her more to think that she would be driving in just two years.
Bevan, who is always the one to want to save a dollar when it comes to anything but his golfing, decided that she didn't need a car.  However, Holly, who makes the money in the family, nixed that idea ,stating that she would have a car.
Then, he said she could have their old SUV, which they purchased when Bailey was two years old.  She nixed that idea also, stating that she was not going to put her in a car that was nearly as old as Bailey.

Instead, she said that she was going to buy her a small Humvee.  "If she has a wreck or rolls one of those, she has about 4,000 pounds of protection surrounding her," she said.
The can be customized to be really cute "kid" SUV's.

This from the kid who wanted and got a Mustang convertible for her 16th birthday.
My, how our attitudes change when we become adults!!  I do have to admit, however, that driving in Dallas is a whole lot different than driving in Yukon, Oklahoma, where Holly went to high school.
I wouldn't put her in a convertible in Dallas either.

Isn't that a cute SUV? I reared two teenage daughters, so I can certainly relate as well.

Holly's choice makes perfect sense. Dallas is worse than Houston I think.
At least we don't get lost in Houston.

It does to me also. Dallas is like all cities. Once you figure out a few of the main streets, you can get around easily.

Times are truly different. The thought that I might have had a car at 16 is truly bizarre. Lucky to have carfare. I had an uncle who had a car -- oh my -- he would come on Sunday and take the family for a drive in the country. The car had running boards. How very special. Jaded is in now.

I got my first car as a graduation present from college. Things have definitely CHANGED!

I know. It is just so sad for me to see them growing up so fast. Little Buddy is 8 now...or as she insists, she is 81/2 now.

All I hope is that Holly doesn't teach Bailey to drive!!!!!

Believe me, that has occurred to me also. I really hope she leaves that job to Bevan.
