Jasmine was planning on staying to go to school but Desirae had to fly back home. David and I attended the first Silent Weekend that Kapi’olani Community College (KCC) put on. It’s a weekend that we all get together and learn about Deaf culture and communicate only in American Sign Language (ASL). I had my 31st birthday.

Took a free one day class about Hawaiian chants, put on by the Hawaiian Studies department, where we walked around Diamond Head and learned specific parts of the chant. I interpreted for a Deaf faculty member and friend, Linda. That sure was tough, but was great practice and very enjoyable! We were thrilled to see Margaret Cho, in her Beautiful tour, at the Hawai’i Theatre and had lots of great laughs. The Honolulu Festival gave us the opportunity to see Japanese, Korean, and other cultures dance, this was our 3rd time of experiencing the festival. David and I took Sharon to the Glow-in-the-Dark Miniature Golf course in Waikiki and played. Went to see my bosses daughter in the production of “Be the Rainbow†put on/written by/produced by/directed by the Movement Center.

August: We had a going away party for our friend Sharon as she prepared to leave for Washington, DC to attend Gallaudet University. Went on the Superferry again to go to Maui.
