I have a weather dog. Send him out: comes in wet, it's raining; comes in dry, it's not raining; doesn't come back, the wind is blowing really hard.

I always have a lump in my throat when I read of someone's much loved pet crossing the rainbow bridge. Perhaps your sweet dog is running with all the dogs I've loved and lost over the years. It's much better to have loved a dog and faced the "good bye" than to have never loved one at all.
