Mindanaomike's Comments

I saw a program on TV that was titled "extreme couponong". On the show, a woman got two carts full of all kinds of stuff worth $1,500 for $7.89, using coupons. Most of the stuff she couldn't use herself, etc. Like this is something to be proud of? Present day Americans have gone crazy, if you ask me.

Very interesting. I live in southern Mindanao, near Sulawesi, Indonesia. We have lots and lots of birds, but I suspect they are not the same ones that live where you do.

The older one gets, the more time one spends contemplating death. I'll be 79 in September, God willing. When I was in my 30's even though I was in the middle of a war, exposed to the very real possibility of death, I never thought I would die. Even when I was eventually wounded and medevac'd to Saigon. I think we are programmed to think in ways that prepare us for the inevitable, so that when it comes, it might not be such a big surprise. I enjoyed your post, and the comments on it.

Thanks, gapeach. For years as a young man I was an idealist. Living and working overseas opened my eyes to the realities of human behavior.

Shades of Loosrobes. Good to hear from him, even if it is by proxy.

That's what I'm saying, I guess. So....discount such protests...ignore them.

I'll have my 78th birthday soon, God willing. I see a lot of myself in this prayer. Thanks Larry.

It really makes me feel good, Jondude, to read these comments that are so caring and understanding about your dear mother's illness. I know that it makes you feel better, too. I'm sorry that you (and she) have to go through this.

Here in Mindanao we can't get good brisket like that. But we have a wide variety of freshly caught fish that are good for smoking. Smoked and salted fish and meat products were made when there was no refrigeration. (I'm old enough to remember those days.) Where I live now the general population is living that way, so they still eat a lot of salted, dried and smoked fish. Meat is less plentiful, so it is consumed quickly. I really like your smoker!

Congratulations. I have done paintings over the years, at infrequent times when I get that creative urge. First in water colors, then in oils. I like landscapes, and especially seascapes. My house is full of framed paintings that I have done, and also many done by my grandmother.
