Love As Much As You Can

Gonna Be a Busy Week!

I was looking forward to a week spent with my husband and most of my kids who live in Oregon. I also wanted to do some work on the house that we're renting out next month. However, I might leave a little bit later so I can stay and help with MIL's stuff.

There is a lot to deal with as she, too, was somewhat of a pack rat. Her tiny mobile home is clean and orderly, but filled to the brim. There is an add-on porch that has been packed tightly to the ceiling with boxes not opened since she moved there 25 years ago. Now that I think of it, she has more boxes stored under my daughter's king sized bed. Haven't gotten to that yet. Since it belongs to someone still living, I didn't think I would have the right to get rid of it anyway.

I'm not sure hubby's sister and her husband know exactly what they're going to be up against. I do... very well, and it's too much to think you can do in a week. Maybe it will go faster for them than it has for me but I doubt it. I'm sure there will be a lot of reminiscing. it's part of the 'processing' process. I wish Hubby was here to help.

After Thanksgiving Hubby's cousin is coming here for a few days to help wrap up FIL's business affairs, which are still not completely settled. She's also going to pick up her share of the inheritance, a spiffy little Mercedes convertible. It's a cutie for sure, and I'm glad it's going to her. She's earned it.

One non-running vehicle down, three to go. One belongs to our neighbor, but it doesn't look like he's ready to deal with it. A while ago I suggested that he might want to start considering what to do with it. He's not quite right in the head and the mere suggestion of it was met with more resistance than I would have expected. I sent some people over there this week who had come to the door asking if we were interested in selling it. It's still here, so I suspect he was the same way with them. Did he think he could store it there for a lifetime? It's starting to look like that.

Oh well, that one will have to wait. At least I can anticipate some space in my garage soon. Once his cousin takes her car out, the old Volkswagon bug can go too. It is presently being blocked by the Mercedes. After that, we can finally get to our prize. It's a rare and highly sought after sports car. At this point I believe they would classify it as a "barn find" as it hasn't been touched, or even out of the garage in all the years we've been married.

Every time I feel weighed down with the burden of dealing with all this stuff, I think of how blessed we are. I'm sure there are many people who have had to deal with stuff like this under much less favorable circumstances. At least FiL left us with the means to do what we needed to do.

Sounds like the neighbor's car needs to be moved over to his property, but there is probably more to the story.

Yes, there is more. His mental impairment was caused by an accident. I don't think he even has a drivers license anymore. I suspect the car represents a lingering hope that he'll one day be able to function the way he used to. Knowing this, or merely guessing it, has made it extremely hard for us to be the tough guy.

It will be a handful. When people have lived somewhere a long time, there
is certainly a lot to do to clear up after them.

That's for sure. I'm just glad it was a small place.
