Love As Much As You Can

TV Church

We didn't go to church yesterday. A laundry issue. Oops! Having missed being spiritually fed, I tuned into the OWN channel where spiritual issues were featured. During commercials I flipped to the BYU channel. HUGE CONTRAST!

Oprah had two brilliant preachers on the shows that I watched. Too bad we couldn't hear half of what they had to say. It reminded me of when my children were little. Every time you thought you were latching on to a meaningful thought, it got interrupted!

The BYU channel featured an LDS conference from a previous year. The speakers at these conferences are not professional preachers, nor do they earn their living by serving in their church positions. They're just ordinary people, called to 'leave their nets', so to speak. There is little that is charismatic about them, and by comparison, their message may have seemed somber or dry. However, I appreciated that you could at least hear them through, if you were patient and had a mind to.

I love Oprah, and I appreciate what she's trying to do. However, on this one I think she needs to get out of the way and let her guests do the talking. They had a lot to say that was powerful! Instead of allowing that to shine through, she turned it into a three ring circus! That's my opinion. I think I'll make sure our laundry is done and attend my regular meetings next Sunday.

The Oprah of today is not the Oprah of yesterday--she has changed--we all do--but not for the better.

I've not been paying attention, but I think you're right!

I don't get the OWN channel in my cable package, so I had to try to figure out what was going on from what you wrote. So, the preacher would talk, and then Oprah would chime in? I will never forgive her for inventing the cliche: 'Ah ha moment,' I'm so sick of hearing it. I suppose it's not her fault it caught on, but still.

Yes, not only did she chime in too frequently as host, but through one preacher's beautiful sermon before the congregation, they kept showing her waving her hands and saying "HELLO....HELLO....HELLO", as if she could not NOT be the center of attention even for a moment! On the other show I watched she had several panels in the background in which people could Skype in. The preacher could not finish a sentence before being interrupted by her, by someone who wanted to comment, or by a commercial break. Kind of hard to feel the spirit.
