I am not sure how it all started, but this morning I noticed an interesting development with my cell phone. It all started because I have T-Mobile and set our house phone (aka Rayray) up as one of my Fav5, which means I can get and make unlimited calls to that number without having to use up any minutes or face any charges. Since he doesn't have a cell phone himself, it is really the number I use the most if I need to call him.
Well, since it doesn't cost us anything, we seem to have subconsciously started using the phone and cell phone as some sort of intercom system to contact each other when we are on different floors in our two-floor house. Rather than shouting up and down the stairs, it is just easier to ring up the other line and say whatever needs to be said. I am not sure if that is a sign of civilization or laziness. I have an eary feeling that it is the latter. How sad is that?
I don't mind a phone when I need to use it, but it's gotten so that I almost hate it when the phone rings. It interrupts things at the most inappropriate times and, often, for no good reason. I choose to keep my cell phone on vibrate most often and will just look to see who the caller is before ever answering it...I can always call back later if it's just an unimportant call. So many, like Martin, refer to the awful cellphones... it's the users of the phones, not the phones. There are many times that a cell phone is a beautiful thing to have.
