Mary's post about field mice in her area really got me thinking. We have no shortage of them in our area. They are one of the challenges of living in the country. Of course, I pity the mice who decide to come into our house. There is not a lot of safety for them since we have two cats and two dogs. They have to be ready to be prey.
We have often come downstairs to find the group of our furry kids huddled around a spot and known that they have a poor little mouse trapped in that area. In some ways, I feel bad for the poor guys.
Solomon, one of the cats, is particularly good at hunting down mice. We find little gifts outside our door all the time if she has been left out over night. Of course, she is not exactly a nice kitty. She likes to swipe at anyone and everyone.
Jolie has decided the mice are just another toy to play with. She wil find one and end up bringing it over to one of us all excited. She has this little walk that just seems to scream happy-go-lucky pride. It is almost like she is skipping. Her tail is up in the air, and her head is up straight. She comes over and just drops the little mouse corpse right in front of one of us as if to say, "I wanna play ... can we, can we?" She does the same thing with her toys when she want to play with one of the many we have bought for her and Belle. It is really adorable.
I guess the thing is, a part of me feels bad for the mice because they really don't have a chance!
