Ray's dad finally got a chance to meet with his surgeon about scheduling his triple bypass surgery. I know it seems like a really long time since it has been more than two weeks since his heart attack. I know I would have thought they would have rushed him in for surgery right away. That has not been the case, though.
Part of the problem is that the hospital he was at does not have a cardiac surgical unit. It really surprised me that they did not transfer him to another hospital that had that service.
The surgeon he met today said that he was not comfortable doing the surgery because he thought it would be too dangerous. He would need a heart and lung machine, which is not available at any of the hospitals in Rhode Island so he would have to go to a hospital in Boston. The surgeon thought Ray's dad might not survive the surgery without extra support.
Dad did get a referral to a surgeon in Boston so he can do a consultation to prepare for such surgery. The one thing that concerns me is that this is going to add more time to the wait for surgery. I can only hope it doesn't go on too long.
