Our Halloween went well. I am not sure what I was thinking, but I never thought to take a picture of myself in either of my costumes this year. The first was me as a pirate for the Halloween Village I help put together with the teens for the wee ones to come trick or treat last Saturday. The other was me in scrubs as a surgeon for Halloween itself. I wore it to work, and then again when I got home to man the door for our trick or treaters.
This was actually the first year in a long time that I was home in time to really experience the trick or treaters. Most days I work until 6:00 pm, if not later. Usually, by the time I get home, most of the little ones have come and gone. This year, because it was on a Friday, I got out of work at 5:00 pm so I got home just in time.
Ray and I actually took a lot of the decorations outside. I set up my laptop with a fun Halloween Music CD that has everything from the "Time Warp" to "Purple People Eater" to "The Monster Mash." We gave out candy and hung out on the front stoop.
Our neighbors across the street, which is a 6-family apartment building, worked together to build a haunted facade. They hung out on the second floor deck, and lowered candy down to the trick or treaters in a small cauldron. It was really cool. The street actually worked together quite a bit, which was really cool.
I felt a little guilty because a few people talked to me about my campaign. I didn't really like the idea of politicking, but they were asking me.
All-in-all, it was a fun night. My only regret was that I would have really liked to go into the city when it was all done and gone clubbing. I was just really in the mood for it, and it is not worth going to the clubs till around 10:00 pm or later so it would have been after the whole trick or treating thing. The only problem is that my cold left me really not up to it.
