I started doing a daily mindfulness meditation about two weeks ago. It was recommended to me by my therapist and it has already changed my life.
By doing this I’m learning not to take my thoughts too seriously, to be here now and to let go of the past and stop worrying about the future.
The key attitudes in my mindfulness training are:
Not judge
Become aware that I am judging. All the time. I want to give up my static way of seeing the world, since it’s only holding back my creativity and commitment.
Patience
Let things take their time. If I plant a seed, I need to let it take it’s time to grow to become a flower.
A beginner’s mind
This moment is a unique moment, it never happened before and it will never happen again. Therefore, I know nothing about it.
Trust
Develop trust in myself, my body and my feelings. If something doesn’t feel right I should listen inwards instead of outwards to any authority or group of people that say or think something.
Not struggle
I’m not going anywhere or doing anything, nor am I supposed to achieve anything. Discover and allow what is already here.
Acceptance
See things the way they are in this moment. To see reality the way it is and not the way I wish it was. This will help me make wise choices that aren’t influenced by any emotions (i.e. frustration).
Letting go
Not get stuck in my ideas, thoughts or wishes. Just let things be the way they are.
This might take my whole life, but that’s okay. I know now that even a small change makes a big difference.
I want to make a weekly post - sort of a record of what I've learned and how being mindful influences (affects) my life. This makes me very optimistic!
