Rant Time in Amerika ...

TODAY'S RANT:
PHILADELPHIA PASSES 1.5 cent tax per ounce tax on sugary and diet drinks.
1. Ridiculous! Another example of 'political correctness' run amok.
2. The way to effect change in diet is NOT to tax goods but to educate the people who need to change behavior.
3. No tax has ever affected the way people eat or what they eat.
4. The Food Police will keep trying stupid things like this to get you to eat no meat, ice cream, candy, etc. unless we stop it!
The tax would impose more than a dollar increase in the price of a 32 ounce bottle of Coca-Cola! What a windfall for the city treasury! But all this tax will do is hurt the bottom line of grocers and markets. It won't stop the consumption of sodas or carbonated drinks. The buyers will simply start shopping in Camden or the suburbs instead of in Philadelphia.
Vote the morons out!

Left-lean thinking can have its downside.

It is impossible to legislate morality and the food police need to get
lost. Here in Oklahoma, they will never give up legislating our
morals but we are one of the fattest states in the U.S. People need
the freedom to choose what they eat and drink without being unduly
taxed even if their choices are harmful. I am still going to enjoy
diet Dr. Pepper and Splenda.

Isn't that about a dollar increase in a 2-liter bottle, you mean? But that's a third of what a 2-L of the cheaper kind costs me anyway. So it's gone up 33%. And it includes the diet sodas... this is ridiculous. I hope Philly votes it out again.
