On the lighter side, I wandered the second-hand shops yesterday looking for frames. No luck, but I stopped for a brew at Clouse's, in Bascom, my boyhood home village. A cousin dropped in and told me he saw frames at a "Tag" sale in Tiffin. He told me where.
A Tag sale is where a family, etc., are selling the contents, and it usually is an estate sale. An estate sale is selling the belongings of a deceased person.
I drove back to Tiffin, found the place and went in. Everything was tagged with a price. In the basement was the workshop and studio of the gentleman (Mr. Elchert- pronounced Elk-hurt) who was a painter and artist. I found a group of really nice, unmarred, deep-rabbet painting frames and selected two. They were marked at ten bucks apiece, but they told me they were half-off.
One is 12 by 16 and the other is 14 by 18. Perfect, but I will have to stretch two canvases to fit. They are somewhat odd sizes. Never used!
I walked through the house and examined the man's work. He was what you call a "Primitive" artist. Reminded me of Grandma Moses. I really enjoyed chatting with his surviving relatives.
Some day people will walk through my abode and stare at my work. What will they think? "Who was this guy?" "Oh, look! Two frames! Just what I'm looking for!"
