We got thundersnow and six more inches last night. At the beginning, around 6 p.m., the snow came so fast and hard and it was a whiteout.
This morning the town emergency warning siren went off at 5:25 a.m. and shot me out of bed.The siren is atop the Kiwanis Manor elderly housing high-rise,a block and a half from my house. You can't sleep through that!
My alarm was set for 6 so I just stayed up.
Turns out it was a malfunction at the Police station that set off the siren. That means somebody hit the switch.
The local emergency people do a Facebook page so I checked and they had us at Level Three, which is the highest/worst emergency level, due to the snow and blowing winds. The plows were out with salt and by 7 the street in front was clear to black pavement.
Levels:
Level One: Bad roads and streets. Drive with caution, but only if necessary.
Level Two: Suggested that only emergency vehicles be on roads and streets.
Level Three: Get caught on roads and streets and you can get ticketed.
All the schools and many businesses are closed. The reports late last night showed two-hour school delays but by the morning they were closed. It is due to the winds. Six inches of snow is nothing here.
Level Three is really bad for business and commerce. People don't get paid because they are not working. School days must be made up in the late Spring.
But our heroes down at Clover Club posted their usual notice: DUE TO THE WEATHER, WE ARE OPEN.
