I've had some internal problems, so recently I have gone off meat and trying to keep a protein input with peanut butter, boiled egg now and then and supplements. Tonight I put a bag of frozen Fordhook Lima beans, a can of butter beans and a little water in a saucepan. Then I sliced a sweet onion and chopped three green-stemmed pearl onions, added them to the beans with a tablespoon of minced garlic, lemon pepper, cracked black pepper, celery salt and a shot of Worcestershire sauce. Then I looked for some chicken stock. Nada! I am totally out of chicken, beef and vegetable stock! That NEVER happens. But... this afternoon over at the Art Guild gallery, Dee gave me a tub of not-spicy Chinese hot sour soup, about two cups worth. So I dumped it in the saucepan, too. It is full of stock, tofu, carrot, and other things, with a lot of thickener, gluten, you name it. It is cooking now and smells delicious. Yes, I always dine late. I am a painter, you know, and I paint at odd hours. Meals happen in my house when hunger strikes, not clocks.
