I Avoided the Insanity

We have an expression in the Fellowship that I believe originated with Einstein or somebody else just as famous: Insanity is do to the same behavior again and again and expect a different result. Ever notice how people do that sort of thing around the holidays? Invite the same guest who fell into the Christmas tree last year and expect him not to get drunk this year?

It's not just alkies who fall into the Christmas tree, of course, it's also the products-of-poor-parenting who make the experience miserable for the adults by doing everything except what they know they should be doing. And then there's the adults who refuse to behave as such--loud and obnoxious--as if the party revolved around them.

Anyway, I'm really not Scrooge, "moms will be moms", and reason doesn't count for much in those cases. I just prefer a more peaceful lifestyle these days, so I have to thank my Sweetie for not insisting that I get involved in any of that crap this year. She did insist that I open one gift before she went off to visit, tho, and I want to show it to you guys. It's a picture she took last summer of an apple tree in our northern orchid. Well, not exactly an apple tree, more like the apple tree in the northern orchid.

I don't think this particular shot by itself got a grade, it was part of a presentation, but she aced the course, and this is one of her favorite shots. Now it hangs in a 16X20 frame on the wall next to where I'm sitting.

The Christmas tree and the other decorations served their purpose, and since they were up since the weekend of Thanksgiving, I was more than ready to have them gone. Everything is as it was, although the house is much cleaner. There is one set of lights that I couldn't resist leaving, especially since it's still dark at dinner time. Does this make me a real redneck--leaving Christmas lights up all year--or doesn't it count since these are clear bulbs?

Well, I miss my Sweetie, but this is the best time to wax the hardwood floors. It's not quite noon yet... not too late to start.... I'm getting more motivated..... have a Happy New Year... and don't ask about the floors.... it's been four years since last I did them... 'nuff said.
